Make the planner match your working life

Set workdays, company closures, booked leave, and blackouts without mixing up their meaning.

A company holiday is a day off that does not spend PTO. Already booked leave spends the working-day allowance. A blackout is a date that must not be part of a suggested break.

Illustrated example: two weekends + one observed Monday holiday + four PTO days make a nine-day break. A paid company Friday reduces the PTO cost to three.

Give each date the right meaning

The calendar can only count the rules you enter. Check whether a closure is paid without using leave, charged to your leave balance, or something you need to handle outside this planner.

Start with the weekly pattern

For a Monday–Thursday workweek, select those four working days. Friday is then already free; do not spend PTO to make it free a second time.

An alternating Friday-off schedule cannot be represented by one repeating week. Start with the regular workdays and add the individual paid days off you have confirmed. Check the resulting dates carefully; the planner does not infer a two-week rota or partial workday.

One extra company day can change the answer

Consider an illustrative Saturday-to-Sunday nine-day break with Monday already a holiday. Tuesday through Friday normally costs four PTO days. If Friday is also a paid company holiday, the same break costs three PTO days.

If Friday instead uses a day of your allowance, it is not a free company holiday. In Annual plan, record it as booked leave and include its cost in the total allowance.

Check before trusting the result

Use the date picker and Add control for each exceptional date. After a change, compare the displayed PTO dates with the calendar you intended. Removing a company holiday should make that working day cost PTO again.

Blackout dates constrain whole suggested windows. A blank result can mean that the remaining dates cannot meet your length and budget rules, rather than that the tool needs a larger allowance.

  1. Confirm the selected year.
  2. Review the regular workdays.
  3. Separate free closures from leave deducted from your balance.
  4. Remove accidental duplicate or conflicting entries.
  5. Check any changes against the employer’s actual calendar.

Questions, answered

Should I add weekends as company holidays?

Usually no. Days outside your selected workweek are already free.

Are half-days supported?

PTO planning uses whole days. Review half-days and hour-based allowances separately instead of rounding them into a promise the planner cannot support.
